Column Companion

A companion for column addition and subtraction

Children type in the calculation from their worksheet and the place value counters show what is happening in each column of the formal written method.

The calculation is typed in a horizontal format first as children frequently find it tricky to transcribe one to the other.

Addition shows the counters combining and ten being carried into the next column. Subtraction shows the counters being taken away and exchanged ('unpacked') from the next column when there aren't enough.

Works with numbers up to millions and up to 4 decimal places, with a choice of decimal point or decimal comma.
