DJ Decimal
Match equivalent fractions, decimals & percentages — before the bar drops!
Age: 9+ years
Learning:
- Year 4: Children learn that tenths and hundredths can be written as decimals, connecting ¹⁄₁₀ = 0.1 and ¹⁄₁₀₀ = 0.01. They recognise and write decimal equivalents of ¼, ½, and ¾ — so ½ = 0.5, ¼ = 0.25, ¾ = 0.75.
- Year 5: Children are taught to recognise and use the percent symbol (%), understand that percent means "number of parts per hundred", and begin converting between fractions, decimals and percentages. Key equivalences expected by the end of Year 5 include: ½ = 0.5 = 50%, ¼ = 0.25 = 25%, ¾ = 0.75 = 75%, ⅕ = 0.2 = 20%, ²⁄₅ = 0.4 = 40%, and ⁴⁄₅ = 0.8 = 80%. Children also read and write decimal numbers as fractions (e.g. 0.71 = ⁷¹⁄₁₀₀), and extend equivalent fractions to support conversion work.
- Year 6: consolidates and applies everything from Year 5 in more complex and problem-solving contexts. Children are expected to be fluent in converting freely between fractions, decimals and percentages, including less straightforward examples (e.g. ⅓ ≈ 0.333… = 33⅓%). They use equivalences to compare and order mixed sets of fractions, decimals and percentages, and to solve multi-step problems — for example, calculating percentage increases/decreases, or finding equivalent representations in real-world contexts such as statistics and ratio. Recall of key equivalences should be rapid and automatic.
Instructions:
- Choose a level from the start menu: Quarters, Tenths, Fifths, Thirds or All.
- A neon bar descends the fretboard showing a fraction, decimal or percentage value.
- Use one of the jog wheels to set the equivalent value before the bar hits the judgement line!
- Gain bonus points by following the triangles, (left or right jog wheel).
- A gold bar with a heart ♥ is a bonus bar — get it right to refill all your lives.
- If you don't want to turn the jog wheels just press where you want them to turn to.
- You can choose different songs by selecting the buttons at the bottom.
- There are 3 levels with the speed set to the BPM of the music.
- The level changes after you get ten correct answers.
- Press the Expand button then F11 on desktop devices for full screen.
- The game ends when you run out of health bars.
Have fun!
