## Equivalent Fractions

A fraction demonstration tool.

Learning Objectives:
Y1: To recognise, find and name a half as 1 of 2 equal parts of an object, shape or quantity.
Y2: To recognise, find, name and write fractions one third, a quarter, two quarters and three quarters of a length, shape, set of objects or quantity.
Y3: To recognise and show, using diagrams, equivalent fractions with small denominators.
Y4: To recognise and show, using diagrams, families of common equivalent fractions.

Drag the whole blocks up from the bottom. Stack to create a wall.
Press on the brick you wish to split and the fraction you wish to create. Your brick will be split into equal parts.
The bin gutter area only removes the pieces once you've pressed on the bin button. Otherwise they are left in the gutter area to model how much you have taken away.
Select a piece then press on the fraction button to split that piece into smaller pieces.

NB:If you select a half and then click a quarter it will split into two quarters.

A great phrase that we use in class, (originally from the OUP MMS Scheme) goes like this... That's one part of a shape (draw over the one), that's been cut (draw the horizontal bar), into 2 (draw over the two), all parts the same size.
