Estimate the placement of a number in relation to others

This is intended as a whole-class teaching tool. It is designed to build on children's understanding of halves, their use of language such
as 'greater than'
and 'fewer than'
and to enhance their mastery of number and the number system.
Give each child an elastic band and a strip, cut from a portrait piece of A4 card.
Choose the number range you wish to use.
Tell the children what number their card starts and ends upon.
Ask the children to slide their rubber band to a number in that range, then hold it up to show you.
Have discussions about where to place the blue band and why they think as they do.
NB: I've placed a hide/reveal button at the bottom of the screen, but I don't think that is necessary for successful use of this resource.
