Thank you so much to Mr Flaming from Dartmouth South Academy, Nova Scotia for asking for this resource!
Breakdown of maths covered:
| Year Group |
What your child will practise |
Example |
| Year 1 | Number bonds — different ways to make the same number | Make 15: 9+6, 7+8, 12+3 |
| Year 2 | Adding and subtracting 2-digit numbers, using nearby round numbers | Make 47: 50−3, 26+21 |
| Year 3 | 3, 4 and 8 times tables; adding and subtracting tens and hundreds | Make 24: 8×3, 30−6 |
| Year 4 | All times tables up to 12×12; spotting factor pairs (can be focused on a single times table) | Make 72: 8×9, 80−8, 144÷2 |
| Year 5 | Multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1,000; working with bigger numbers | Make 3,400: 17×200, 6,800÷2 |
| Year 6 | Multi-step calculations, spotting efficient routes, working with negative numbers | Make 240: 480÷2, 120+120, 250−10 |
Every puzzle can be set to 1, 2 or 3 asteroids — this only changes how big the numbers get, not what's being practised. Children must find two different ways to reach each target before the round is complete.
